| Lucio
began his spiritual journey in 1982
when he had hit rock bottom. After being
hospitalized several times for his alcohol
addiction, he met Masterji, a school
teacher and Shirdi Sai Baba disciple.
And so his quest to know the true “Self”
began. Later, through common friends
he was introduced to his spiritual mentor
to be, Sri Madhava Ashish. An Englishman
and an aeronautics Engineer, Ashishda
as he was fondly know to his friends
and disciples found his spiritual calling
and settled in Mirtola in the Himalayas
where he started a self supporting commune.
Influenced by Maharishi and Gurdjieff
and modern philosophers like Carl Jung
and his guru Sri Krishna Prem, Asishda
wrote several books on spirituality
including ‘Man Son of Man’ and “Man,
the Measure of all Things and “Dream
as Everyman’s Guide to the Spirit Lucio
and Ashishda developed a very strong
bond and exchanged letters and thoughts
for 13 years till Ashishda passed away
in 1997. Ashishda helped Lucio to overcome
his addiction and guided him along a
path of self awareness through deep
introspection and dream analysis, a
discipline that Ashishda had mastered.
During this time Lucio also learnt and
perfected the techniques of Vipassana
meditation which he consistently practiced
everyday for the rest of his life.
Lucio’s sharp intellect, vast knowledge
on diverse subjects and a deep understanding
of philosophy and spirituality were
fascinating and intriguing facets of
his personality to those who knew him.
Lucio also practiced his spirituality
every waking minute of his life, with
his gentle manner and warmth, empathy,
unbounded generosity and his ability
to forgive even when he was hurt deeply.
